Bishop Newton is the Senior Pastor of the Word of God Church at 1733 Mercy Drive. He serves as the Bishop of the 29th Episcopal District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW), Inc. He is a man of vision and integrity, seeking to fulfill God’s purpose and destiny. He was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 12. He was called into ministry in 1962 under the pastorage of the deceased Leroy Jacobs. He became an ordained minister in 1982 after being called to pastor The Word of God Church in June of 1981. Bishop Newton is a serious man of God dedicated to winning souls. His heart is truly turned towards God as he seeks further direction on “Building a Spiritual Community to Impact the Whole Man.”
Lady Ruth Tyson Newton is a native of New York. She was baptized in Jesus' name for the remission of her sins and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at the age of 17, at Greater Refuge Temple in New York City, under the anointed leadership of the Honorable Sainted Bishop William L. Bonner, Sr. who was the Chief Apostle of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith. She is a graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English, with a concentration in journalism. She began her 37-year career in the publishing industry, where she was a production editor for Redbook magazine, and the managing editor for Family Circle magazine. In January 1997, Lady Ruth was joined in holy matrimony to the Honorable Bishop James E. Tyson, Founder and Senior Pastor of Christ Church Apostolic, Inc. and the Diocesan Bishop of the Apostolic Bible Students Association (ABSA) of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. This legendary man of God transitioned from earth to Glory in July 2011. On the state and national levels, Lady Ruth served faithfully with the ABSA Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Auxiliary and was the first vice president from 1999 to 2005, and president from 2005 to 2011. She served as first vice president of the International Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Auxiliary from 2004 to 2010, under the dynamic leadership and mentorship of Dr. Ada Parker, and was honored to be elected president in August 2010, and reelected for another four-year term in 2014. She served as the director of publications, and the editor in chief of The Christian Outlook, the official publication of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc., for over 21 years. She is also a board-certified chaplain at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Florida. In 1999, she was conferred with an honorary doctorate from Aenon Bible College, where she is a member of the board of directors. She received her associate degree from Aenon Bible College (2003), and a master’s degree from the Christian Theological Seminary (2009). She is near completion of a master’s degree from Wesley Seminary in Marion, Indiana. In March 2019, Lady Ruth was joined in holy matrimony to the Honorable Bishop Billy G. Newton, Senior Pastor of the Word of God Church of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. in Orlando, Florida, and the Diocesan Bishop of the Florida State Council. She is a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
